To Whom It May Concern:

#1. I've read that there used to be a Cash & Carry wholesale food store in Mozhaysk from about 1990 to 2003. I've also read that the Sales & Marketing Director was Michael O'Leary, that the General Director was Hans Jurgen Weise, & that the President was Sergei Kuptsov. Is that correct?

#2. If so, do you know what company owned the store, & do you know why it closed?

#3. I've also read that people would drive out from Moscow to buy groceries there, & that it was located on Ulitsa 20 of January in an old library building.

#4. If possible, please reply in English.

#2. I've read that the name of the company was spelled 3 different ways in English, depending on how it was transliterated:

Moscow Cash & Carry Moshaisk, or Moscow Cash & Carry Mozhaisk, or Moscow Cash & Carry Mozhaysk

#3. The English newspaper Moscow Times called it "Moscow Cash & Carry Moshaisk" in 3 different articles, & "Moscow Cash & Carry Mozhaisk" in 15 different articles.

Trying to answer your questions.

1. Cash&Carry Mozhaysk was closed due to lack of customers. 70 miles is far enough (from Moscow) even for Russia. There are some cash&carry stores stiil in operation, but they are located not far than 15 miles from borders of Moscow city.

2. The link provided by Multihalfer is correct and map is not inconsistent. "Ulitsa 20 Yanvarya" is "20th January street" in english, 20 is not a house number but a date. The full address of this building is "18, 20th January st., 143200 Mozhaysk Russia", where 18 is a house no., althouth it's located away from the street on map.

3. This is not an old library building. It is a State Press Arhive storage. It was temporarily rented by cash&carry mozhaysk.

My mistake, sorry. Map says right. Building number is 20.

As for street names, it's rather hard to answer.. As you can see on the map, "Ulitsa 20 Yanvarya" consists of two separate pieces (one some 200 meters right to the west from the point, and another 800 m to the south). Initially there were plans to connect those two pieces and prolong the street further to north-north-east, and buildings were numbered according to this plan, but everything was changed (except building numbers). A kind of geographical puzzle, isn't it?

Did you read the latest revisions to my last post, including my apologies for Posts #5, #6, #8, and #10, and the fact that I deleted them, and that I revised Post #2??
